Incense cedar has flat, lacy sprays of bright-green foliage and a warm, spicy scent, the same wood used in many pencils. It makes a soft, airy tree with a different texture from firs and pines.
The flexible branches suit lighter ornaments and garlands. Its fragrance is strongest in the first couple of weeks, and fresh trimmings make good wreaths and table greenery.
