Grand fir

Glossy, flat needles and a strong, fresh fragrance. Fuller and softer than most firs.

Grand fir has flat, glossy, deep-green needles that grow in two rows along each twig, which gives the branches a layered, open look. It has one of the strongest fragrances of any Christmas tree.

The open branching leaves room to hang ornaments inside the tree, not just on the tips. Branches are softer than noble fir, so keep the heaviest ornaments near the trunk. Give it plenty of water, since it can dry out faster than some other firs.

Farms that grow grand fir

Selection changes every season, so check with the farm before you go.

Compared with other trees

  • Noble fir: Noble fir has stiffer branches and a more formal shape.
  • White fir: White fir is bluer, with a citrus scent.
